The academic year at Malibu High School is divided into two semesters. The fall semester begins in late August and ends mid-December. The spring semester begins in early January and ends in early June. Students receive final grades after each semester. Semester grades are used to determine eligibility for the Malibu High School Honor Roll, the California Scholarship Federation, and the California Junior Scholarship Federation.
Student of the Month
Each month, Malibu High School honors a student from each grade level for hard work and dedication to the school and the community. Selected by their teachers, these students exhibit outstanding work habits, citizenship, and a positive attitude. Students of the Month receive a certificate, a small token of appreciation and get their picture taken with our Principal, Mr. Miller.
California Scholarship Federation (CSF)
CSF is a state-accredited honor society that recognizes California high school students for academic scholarship and service. CSF membership is open to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Seniors who are members at least four out of their last six semesters, with at least one semester based on grades earned as a senior, qualify as CSF Gold Seal Bearers. Gold Seal Bearers may apply for CSF college scholarships and are recognized at graduation with gold sashes and special diplomas.
High school students (grades 10-12) who qualify may become a member of the CSF by earning a grade point average of 3.5. Grades are calculated at the end of the semester. Physical education is not counted in the GPA. All students who are eligible are strongly encouraged to become members; colleges and universities recognize this type of scholastic achievement. In order to become a member, the student must submit an application each semester the student is eligible.
California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF)
Founded in 1967, CJSF fosters high standards of scholarship, service and citizenship in the middle school grades. Like CSF, CJSF emphasizes service in the school and the community while fostering pride in scholastic achievement.
For CJSF membership, the adviser analyzes the semester report card of the applicants. Membership is based on grades earned during the preceding semester. Students must reapply every semester.
To qualify for CJSF membership this semester, follow these guidelines:
1. You must earn TWICE the number of points than courses in which you are enrolled that meet membership requirements. Those courses in 7th and 8th grade are math, science, social studies, language arts, and foreign language.
2. No points are earned for P.E., a remedial or repeated course, or work experience in which pay is involved,
3. CJSF points are granted as follows: A=3 points B=1 point
