2025-26 Permit Applications

All permits and support documents must be submitted electronically. Paper submissions are not available and will not be accepted.

The Board of Education desires to provide enrollment options that meet the diverse needs and interests of district students. Upon request, the Superintendent or designee may allow students who live within the district to transfer to another school; may accept students from other districts; and may allow students to transfer out of the district. Interdistrict Permit/Open Enrollment

Decisions will be provided within 60 days of a completed application.
Interdistrict Permit Applications received after August 22, 2025, are considered LATE and are reviewed pending grade level availability and/or program required. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Students who reside outside the boundaries of SMMUSD may apply to attend school in SMMUSD on an interdistrict permit (interdistrict transfer release) from their school of residence. This information applies to students who do not live in Santa Monica or Malibu who seek to enroll in an SMMUSD school.
