Welcome to Edison Langauge Academy!

Edison Language Academy is a proud public school within the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District and a long-standing school of choice, serving approximately 400 students in PreK through 5th grade. Since 1986, Edison has offered a full 90–10 dual-immersion program in English and Spanish, making it one of California’s most established and successful bilingual programs.

Edison’s work is guided by three core goals:

1. Bilingualism and Biliteracy – Students learn to listen, speak, read, and write in both English and Spanish at an academic level.

2. High Academic Achievement – Every student excels across all subjects, as reflected in our many academic awards.

3. Sociocultural Competence – Students develop pride in their own identity, learn from and about others, recognize injustice, and take action for equity and kindness.

At Edison, we believe that learning another language is an enrichment, not a deficit. Our students add a second language without losing their first—developing deep respect for both languages and the diverse cultures they represent. In our classrooms, students learn with and from each other through authentic daily communication in both languages. This dynamic, inclusive environment nurtures curiosity, collaboration, and a lifelong love of learning.

Our highly trained teachers are experts in language instruction and committed to the success of every child. Edison students consistently achieve at high academic levels, demonstrating that bilingual education prepares children for far more than minimal competency—it prepares them for college, careers, and active global citizenship.

Edison is the proud beginning of a PreK–12 Dual Immersion Pathway. Students who continue through middle and high school can meet university foreign language requirements, take Advanced Placement Spanish courses, and earn the California State Seal of Biliteracy.
