Common Core State Standards (CCSS): Preparing Students for Success
The California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) establish clear, consistent, and high expectations for what students should know and be able to do at each grade level in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects. These standards are designed to ensure that students graduate with the skills and knowledge needed for success in college, career, and life.
Implementation at Roosevelt Elementary
At Roosevelt Elementary, the CCSS guides our instruction and curriculum across all subjects. Highlights of our approach include:
-
Culturally Relevant Teaching: Integrating diverse perspectives and materials to reflect and celebrate the experiences of all students.
-
Differentiated Instruction: Tailoring lessons to meet the unique needs of every learner.
-
21st-Century Skills: Incorporating technology and collaborative projects to prepare students for a digital and interconnected world.
-
Assessment and Feedback: Using formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and provide meaningful feedback.
Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS): Inspiring Scientific Thinking and Innovation
The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are a set of research-based, up-to-date K-12 science content standards. These standards provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a complex and technology-driven world by integrating science practices, crosscutting concepts, and core disciplinary ideas. NGSS prepares students to think critically, solve problems, and make informed decisions about scientific and technical issues.Implementation at Roosevelt Elementary
At Roosevelt Elementary, NGSS is integrated into our curriculum to spark curiosity and cultivate a love for science. Key highlights include:
-
Hands-On Investigations: Students participate in experiments and projects that explore topics like ecosystems, forces, and energy.
-
STEM Connections: Lessons incorporate science, technology, engineering, and math, preparing students for future careers in these fields.
-
Collaborative Projects: Group activities encourage peer learning and the development of communication and critical-thinking skills.
-
Focus on Equity: Ensuring all students have access to resources and experiences that inspire them to pursue scientific learning.
