OBPP is for ALL Students

  • The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is intended for those students who are bullied, those who bully, those who bully and are bullied, and the bystanders who witness the bullying-like behavior. Language is important! We avoid using the labels of Bully and Victim. Labeling students can stereotype and be harmful.

There are 4 components to the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program:

    • Schoolwide Component - Each school establishes a coordinating committee, trains all staff members, administers the annual Olweus Bullying Questionnaire to all students (gr.3-12), holds regular staff discussions, coordinates school-wide efforts, and engages families.
    • Classroom Component - Teachers review and post the school wide anti bullying rules, hold regular class community-building meetings, and engage families.
    • Individual Component - Staff members supervise student activities, intervene on-the-spot when bullying-like behavior occurs, respond when bullying is reported/suspected, and develop intervention plans for students involved in bullying.
    • Community Component - Schools develop partnerships with and involve the community in their bullying prevention efforts, and spread community wide anti bullying principles.
